First of all, I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. If you are blessed to have a furry or feathered companion in your home, I hope you will take a moment to show them your gratitude for having their companionship.

For me, I will be spending Thanksgiving with my family in Michigan. While there, I will have three book signing events in Michigan over the next 10 days for my book How Shelter Pets are Brokered for Experimentation: Understanding Pound Seizure.

If you live in Michigan, or know of someone in Michigan who loves animals, please share this information about the book signing events. Michigan is in a fierce battle ground to end the practice of pound seizure. The 2009-10 anti-pound seizure bill that I wrote and have lobbied for passage made great strides in the Michigan House; but it will die in the Senate due to the Senate Agriculture Committee’s failure to schedule any hearing dates. But efforts are underway to re-introduce the bill in early 2011. In the meantime, the more people that know about pound seizure and can support legislative efforts to ban the practice, the safer all cats and dogs will be.

Lastly, I am on schedule to finish my next book on Defending the Defenseless: How to Become an Animal Advocate at the end of this month! I will spend December reviewing the manuscript with the goal of submitting it to the publisher before Christmas. The anticipated publication date will be around August 2011. So stay tuned! I really like how the book turned out, including interviews with almost 40 people who are doing amazing work on behalf of animals. It is a practical book on a multitude of ways that everyone can do more to help animals.

Have a safe and healthy holiday!
