This is a wonderful story of successful advocacy. If you have read my book on “How Shelter Pets are Brokered for Experimentation”, on pages 86-87 I talk about an orange tabby cat named Robert who was living in a cage as an experiment at the University of Utah. PETA conducted an undercover investigation of what was being done with the animals at U of U. When their investigation was finished, Robert was still at the lab. Robert’s story has haunted me for months, so recently I contacted PETA about the possibility of having Robert rescued. I was sent this response: “Please rest assured that Robert is no longer at the laboratory and has been adopted out. The university has not released the name or location of his new guardians for privacy reasons.” There are still many more “Roberts” living in laboratories as experimentation objects. But at least Robert is now safe and hopefully happy.
